Visa’s Everywhere Initiative: promoting LATAM Fintech startups to transform the industry
Visa’s Everywhere Initiative aims to respond to this challenge by launching a Fintech startup competition designed to accelerate innovation in payments functionalities and financial services, bringing together entrepreneurial talent from Latin America and the Caribbean to create cutting-edge solutions under Visa’s support.
Technology-based startups are transforming the financial services and payments industry around the world. Latin America is not immune to this trend, as Fintech startups from across the region are improving access to and offering of a wide range of financial and payment services, both for banked and unbanked segments of the population. Through access to Visa’s APIs and by taking advantage of Visa’s functionalities, startups from Latin America have a unique opportunity to develop innovative products and services that will benefit consumers and companies from the region. To this end, Visa has launched this competition in Latin America for the first time in order to identify those Fintech startups capable of transforming the financial services and payments industry in the region.
What am I going to find in Visa’s Everywhere Initiative Semifinal Bogotá?
Visa’s Everywhere Initiative comes to Bogota for the first time on September 26th to celebrate one of its five semifinals in the region. During the event, we will meet the 10 emerging Fintech semi-finalists from Colombia and nearby countries, who will pitch their businesses in front of a panel of judges and compete to be selected as the two finalists from this semi-final. The two selected startups will participate in a 4-day immersion program and will pitch their projects in the final of Visa’s Everywhere Initiative, which will take place at FINNOSUMMIT in Miami on November 9, 2017. The most innovative Fintech startup in Latin America will be selected at the final, winning a $50,000 prize and the opportunity to collaborate with Visa in the future of payments.
Moreover, during the semifinal in Bogota, we will hear from a leading Fintech expert, who will offer a keynote to more than 200 attendees during an evening of innovation and financial disruption.
Visa’s Everywhere Initiative Semifinal will end with a networking cocktail, which is designed for the local community of Fintech innovators to network and socialize amongst each other.

Johanna Posada | Managing Director and Founder, Elevar
Johanna Posada is Managing Director and co-founder of Elevar Equity, a private venture capital fund management firm that invests in emerging countries. Elevar focuses on investing in and supporting entrepreneurs that offer products and services to clients with limited or no access to global systems. Currently, Elevar manages three funds and, with over USD165 million under management (AUM), has invested in 29 companies in emerging countries (India, Mexico, Peru, Argentina and Brazil), and in sectors such as funding for micro and SMEs, Fintech businesses, payments/corresponsal banking, education financing, low resource housing and health services. Johanna has over 17 years of experience working in the corporate finance and investment sector in emerging markets. She is currently Manager of Afluenta (Argentina), Credijusto (Mexico), Tienda Nube (Argentina), Financiera TFC (Perú), FINAE (México) and Unión Andina (España / EEUU). She has previously been the Board Member of Caja Rural de los Andes (Perú), Credex (Mexico) and observer at GloboKasNet (Perú). After graduating from the ITAM (Mexico DF) in Economics, she began her career as an economist at the Central Bank in Mexico, where she focused on the elaboration of institutional frames to increase efficiency and inclusion in the Mexican financial sector. Johanna received her Masters in Business Administration from Stanford University, after which she worked as Senior Financial Specialist in the Exploration Company of ExxonMobil (Africa) and Sr. Investment Manager for the team of Capital Markets of Unitus, Inc.
Startup Competition Visa’s Everywhere Initiative
Visa’s Everywhere Initiative is a Fintech startup competition designed to accelerate innovation in payment functionalities and financial services, bringing together Latin American entrepreneurial talent to create cutting-edge solutions.
Visa’s Everywhere Initiative will travel across Latin America looking for the 10 most innovative Fintech startups capable of meeting the needs of the local market. Startups will participate in the semifinals, which will be held in Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Santiago de Chile, Bogotá and Sao Paulo. Each semifinal will have 10 semifinal Fintech startups, and the 2 best startups from each semifinal will participate in a 4-day immersion program and will pitch their projects in the final, which will take place at FINNOSUMMIT in Miami on November 9, 2017. The most innovative Fintech startup in Latin America will be selected at the final, winning a $50,000 prize and the opportunity to collaborate with Visa in the future of payments.
