Visa’s Everywhere Initiative: promoting LATAM Fintech startups to transform the industry

Visa’s Everywhere Initiative aims to respond to this challenge by launching a Fintech startup competition designed to accelerate innovation in payments functionalities and financial services, bringing together entrepreneurial talent from Latin America and the Caribbean to create cutting-edge solutions under Visa’s support.

Technology-based startups are transforming the financial services and payments industry around the world. Latin America is not immune to this trend, as Fintech startups from across the region are improving access to and offering of a wide range of financial and payment services, both for banked and unbanked segments of the population. Through access to Visa’s APIs and by taking advantage of Visa’s functionalities, startups from Latin America have a unique opportunity to develop innovative products and services that will benefit consumers and companies from the region. To this end, Visa has launched this competition in Latin America for the first time in order to identify those Fintech startups capable of transforming the financial services and payments industry in the region.

What am I going to find in Visa’s Everywhere Initiative Semifinal Buenos Aires?

Visa’s Everywhere Initiative comes to Buenos Aires for the first time on August 31st to celebrate one of its five semifinals in the region. During the event, we will meet the 10 emerging Fintech semifinalists from Argentina and nearby countries, who will pitch their businesses in front of panel of judges and compete to be selected as the two finalists from this semifinal. The two selected startups will participate in a 4-day immersion program and will pitch their projects in the final of Visa’s Everywhere Initiative, which will take place at  FINNOSUMMIT in Miami on November 9, 2017. The most innovative Fintech startup in Latin America will be selected at the final, winning a $50,000 prize and the opportunity to collaborate with Visa in the future of payments.

Moreover, during semifinal in Buenos Aires we will hear from a leading Fintech expert, who will offer a keynote to more than  200 attendees during an evening of innovation and financial disruption.

Visa’s Everywhere Initiative Semifinal will end with a networking cocktail, which is designed for the local community of Fintech innovators to network and socialize amongst each other.

Cristóbal Perdomo | Co-Founder and General Partner, Jaguar Ventures

Cristobal Perdomo is an experienced Internet investor, entrepreneur and executive focused on Latin America. He is a Co-Founder and General Partner at Jaguar Ventures, a venture capital firm focused on early stage Internet ventures in Latin America. Previously, Mr. Perdomo served as VP of Real Estate Latin America at Navent, Latin America’s largest online classifieds company (backed by Tiger Global and Riverwood Capital). At Navent, he was part of the founding team and was responsible for the company’s real estate sites in Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, Panama and Venezuela, and software companies in Brazil and Mexico. During his tenure, the operations he oversaw grew 14x in revenues and all turned EBITDA positive, going from representing less than 3% of the company to over 25% of the company’s revenues and over 60% of the company’s EBITDA. Mr. Perdomo began his career as a lawyer focused on international financial transactions in the energy sector. He has also held senior management positions at Cemex, Grupo Modelo (now part of AB Inbev), and Booz & Co. (now known as Strategy&). Mr. Perdomo holds an MBA with honors from Columbia University and received his JD summa cum laude from Universidad Iberoamericana.

 

Startup Competition Visa’s Everywhere Initiative

Visa’s Everywhere Initiative is a Fintech startup competition designed to accelerate innovation in payment functionalities and financial services, bringing together Latin American entrepreneurial talent to create cutting-edge solutions.

Visa’s Everywhere Initiative will travel across  Latin America looking for the 10 most innovative Fintech startups capable of meeting the needs of the local market. Startups will participate in the semifinals, which will be held in Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Santiago de Chile, Bogotá and Sao Paulo. Each semifinal will have 10 semifinal Fintech startups, and the 2 best startups from each semifinal will participate in a 4-day immersion program and will pitch their projects in the final, which will take place at  FINNOSUMMIT in Miami on November 9, 2017. The most innovative Fintech startup in Latin America will be selected at the final, winning a $50,000 prize and the opportunity to collaborate with Visa in the future of payments.
